First Look at "Sparkle" Trailer ft/ Whitney Houston & Jordin Sparks [VIDEO]

A sneak peek of the highly anticipated Sparkle re-make starring the late Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks was shown this morning on The Today Show...

Sparkle is the debut film for American Idol alumni Jordin Sparks will be in theaters August 18th. She willreprise Academy Award-winning actress/singer Irene Cara's role as Sparkle from the original 1976 film.

Irene Cara circa 70s

R. Kelly has been writing original songs for the movie's soundtrack in addition to redoing old ones by Curtis Mayfield, who was the composer and producer of the 1976 film's songs and score.

“There are songs from the original film that are being redone,” adds Evans. “R. Kelly has 10 original works for the soundtrack and you would think the songs are from that period in the 60s, but he just wrote them.  They are a-ma-zing!” Source

I loved the original movie, so it'll be great to see the 2012 version.  I know it will be bittersweet watching Whitney Houston on the big screen knowing that she is no longer with us. But I'm happy that younger generations will be able to watch and listen to "The Voice" who touched the hearts of millions around the world.

The film premieres in theaters August 18th and also features Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Cee-Lo Green, Carmen Ejogo, and Tiki Sumpter. This will be a definite must-see for me. Are you going to go see Sparkle?
