Happy Birthday Alicia Keys!
The singer/composer and now turns 31 today. Here's one of my favorite songs and video by her, "You Don't Know My Name." It's from her sophomore album, The Diary of Alicia Keys.
We also remember Etta James on today. She would have have celebrated her 74th birthday. She passed five days before she could see it.

Aretha Franklin Calls Off Engagement To Willie Wilkerson!
Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time," Franklin said. "We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends. "We're very compatible, and he supports me and I support him a lot, and he has given me specialized attention that I don't think I've received from anyone else," she said. SourceMr. Wilkerson would have made husband #4 for Ms. Franklin. It wasn't stated if they are still together or not, but either way I'm pretty sure they'll continue to remain friends.

Song of the Day!
Who remembers this 1999 hit from these two? Some years ago, before Trey Songz chart-topping hit, "Can't Be Friends", everyone was rocking to this breakup anthem. This song was in heavy rotation and reached #1 on the R&B charts. A lot of people could relate because it's about a couple who's broken up, but can't seem to go back to how things used to be because they're still in love with each other. Sigh...we've all been there before!
This song came at the last of the pure R&B years as we remember it. Before the takeover of the whole Hip-Hop and R&B label that songs today are labeled as. Pure R&B songs today are labeled as either "Adult R&B" or "Neo-Soul". BRING BACK REAL R&B!

Solange Isn't Feeling The Beyonce Slander...
Unless you've been living under a rock, you are aware that Beyonce Knowles-Carter gave birth to a daughter, Blue Ivy Carter aka BIC over the weekend. Beyonce's husband, rapper Jay-Z had the internet buzzing and with his song dedication to his newborn daughter, "Glory" yesterday.
Throughout Beyonce's pregnancy there has been speculation and much conspiracy theories on the reality of her pregnancy. From her first announcement of her pregnancy at the MTV Awards until now, there have been doubts among the public as much as there has been congratulations. However some of the comments must've gotten under her sister, singer-songwriter Solange Knowle's skin because she took to Twitter (as most celebs do) to voice her anger...

Song of The Day!
Here's a R&B classic from the legendary soul singer, Al Green. "Let's Stay Together" is one of Al Green's most notable singles. This love song was #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 and R&B charts back in 1971 from the album with the same name and is still thriving today.
"Let's Stay Together" is probably one of the most sampled and covered songs in the history of R&B. It's been covered by Roberta Flack, Margie Joseph, Tina Turner, Boyz II Men, Donny Osmond, Michael Bolton, Issac Hayes, Robin Thicke and several others. It has also been featured in numerous commercials, TV shows, and movies. It has also been named one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by Rolling Stones.
From the first chords of this song, to the last adlibs, you can't help but tap your foot, dance or sing along. I wonder if he knew how big of a hit he was actually recording when he was in the studio back in the 70s. I love good music.

Song of The Day!
This song soared to the top of the charts and was #1 on four Billboard charts which included, Pop, R&B, Club Play, and Disco Single. "Boogie Oogie Oogie" sold over two million copies and earned the group a Grammy award in 1979 for Best New Artist. This song is the epitome of funk, soul, and disco and is their biggest hit to date.
I love the fact that the two lead singers, Janice-Marie Johnson and Carlita Dorhan, are rocking it out on the mic and guitars. You didn't see that too often back in the day. Especially among the popularity of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Sly, Commodores, and other rock/funk groups primarily dominated by men. Nowadays, we are familiar with Beyonce's all-girl band, but salute to bands like A Taste of Honey and Klymaxx who came before them.
Have a good weekend and enjoy!

Throwback Video: Pebbles & Babyface "Love Makes Things Happen"
Raise your hand if you remember this 1990 classic slow jam! This is one of my absolute favorite RnB duets of all time! You have the beautiful and talented singer, Pebbles combined with the smooth and musically talented Babyface together singing about the rollercoaster ride of love.
I love the whole concept and storyline of this video. Videos like this one makes me miss the days when singers actually sung without being naked and sexually explicit. It's simple, classy, and enhances the song really well. We haven't heard from these two in a while, but this song right here is always in rotation on my iPod. Enjoy!

Bump or Stomp: H-Town "#1 Friend (Internet Love)" ft. Kiotti
It's been a while since we've heard from H-Town, the Houston RnB group known for "Knockin Da Boots". Since the death of member Kevin "Dino" Conner, who was killed in a car accident in 2003, we haven't heard too much from them. However, the now duo are back with a new single, #1 Friend (Internet Love) and are back on the scene again. Sounds rather weak to me, but check it out for yourself.
